Diagnosis
Learn how mental health assessment works and why a diagnosis is never based on one test alone.
How assessment works
The specialist builds a complete picture and explains the findings in clear language.
What a professional considers
Assessment begins with a conversation about your concerns, changes in wellbeing, how long they have lasted and how they affect everyday life. The professional may also ask about physical health, sleep, current pressures, previous conditions and other circumstances that could contribute to what you are experiencing.
Questionnaires and additional examinations are used when appropriate. They support the clinical conversation but do not replace it. After the assessment, the professional explains the findings, answers questions and discusses suitable next steps. Clarifying a condition may sometimes require follow-up over time or input from another healthcare professional.
